It's not surprising that cupcakes are just as popular as cakes - and sometimes more so because they are smaller and easier to make! Chef Tiffany has compiled almost every kind of tool (except that darn fondant roller on her wish list! LOL) and loves to show students how to use them in their baking projects.

Just like our cake weeks, students that have been to this camp in the past enjoy the refresher about cupcake baking fundamentals as well as trying new cupcake designs and recipes, so don't be afraid to signup for this camp again.

The format of this cupcake week is just like our Cupcake Wars week - but without the daily competition. Each student bakes and decorates their own cupcakes and they earn points for participation, effort, design, and cleaning up. Points will be tallied at the end of the week to win individual prizes. On the first day of camp, we review the basics for both vanilla and chocolate cupcakes and what makes a cupcake stand above the rest, then we brainstorm as a group what cupcake projects we are going to tackle for the rest of the week. This allows each student to have a voice in what we make for the week.

How to Prepare Inexperienced Young Chefs for Success
While you are waiting for summer, you can help your young chef prepare for camp by working on their measuring skills. Let them pour, scoop, and measure all types of ingredients. Talk to them about the labels on the measuring cups and spoons and how it matches the ingredients list on your recipe - or even on the side of a box. This is a No Judgement Zone! The more you allow them to work in the kitchen with you, the more independent they become.

What To Bring to Camp:

  • Bring a cold lunch and a water bottle
  • Bring to-go containers. More details about size later.
  • Long hair should be tied back away from their faces.
  • Closed-toe, comfortable shoes. They stand a LOT while they are cooking!
